FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about file formats and resolutions

How to print the single pages of a multipage PDF or PostScript file next to each other to avoid media wastage?

These files have to be loaded via the "add job" button and not via Drag and Drop. Loading these files into the queue will automatically activate the layout check box. This will place the single pages next to each other. You can check how the single pages are arranged by right clicking the job entry and select "Nest Editor".

Can PosterJet V7 print Word documents directly?

Word documents cannot be printed directly, but you can print to PosterJet from Word and any other application via PPD (PostScript Printer Description, a virtual printer driver). For installing this PPD please go into our help system and have a look at the workshop "Printing from the application".

Can PosterJet print PostScript Level3 files?

Yes, PosterJet V7 supports this file format.

Can I increase the contrast of my print job/image with PosterJet?

This feature is not yet available, but will be available as an optional module for PosterJet.

Does PosterJet support 16-bit tiff files?

Yes, from version 7.5 PosterJet supports 16-Bit Tiff files.

Can I split my print job/image into several columns?

Yes, by using PosterJet’s tiling option. This is available in the Business Editions and as an optional module for the Design Editions.
You will find the tiling option in the Submission window under the "Tiling" tab. The columns can be arranged manually or automatically (see also the “large printouts” workshop in our help system).

Which scan resolution is required for large format printing with PosterJet?

A resolution of at least 100 dpi is required with regard to output size. The higher the resolution (with regard to the output size), the better the printout. A resolution of 150 to 200 dpi is a better recommendation. Please note that these numbers are based on the output size. The scan resolution in dpi = (desired print width in cm) * (desired print resolution in dpi, such as 200) / (width of the original image to be scanned in cm)

Please note:
The interpolation of a small image, such as in Photoshop, will not add any details that were not already included in the original scan. Sharpening is only useful when printing up to DIN A3/A2, as the effect is no longer recognizable in larger output sizes.

Why are the colors not reproduced on the media according to the defaults?

This can have many causes. Please verify that:

Why is my printout looking different than it appeared on my screen?

For getting the same colours on your screen and on your printout it is very important to create a special ICC-profile for your screen. To do this you need a spectralphotometer (e.g. EyeOne from Gretag McBeth) and the software to create this profile (e.g. Profilemaker). This profiling of your screen (output device) can be made for nearly all out- and input devices. Please see also the "Introduction to Colour Management" in our help system.

Do all versions of PosterJet include the ability to print directly from an application? If not, which versions support this functionality?

Only the PosterJet Editions with PostScript will offer this functionality, as printing from an application will generate a PostScript file via a virtual PosterJet printer (PPD) that needs to be interpreted by PosterJet!

Why can`t I print some pdf documents since updating to Version 7.5?

If the files you want to print are saved on a remote network drive, please make sure that this drive is connected properly. Please go to the menu "tools" inside the Windows Explorer and select "map network drive". In some cases it may happen that files inside a network folder that is simply linked will produce a "PostScript Interpreter Error" when trying to print them with PosterJet. This can only happen when using the PosterJet 7 WebHosting.
